My Favorite Knitting Project

Writer's picture: Oliva WalkerOliva Walker

My mom taught me to knit when I was about five years old. Most of my early projects were holey dish cloths and half finished and forgotten blankets. Now, I have been knitting for almost thirteen years and have made many, many projects that have been much more successful and enjoyable.

Throughout my knitting career I’ve made different types of sweaters, ranging from cable knit cardigans to the plainest of knit pull-overs. However, my favorite project so far has been my checkered sweater. When the trend was going around to knit the “Harry Styles cardigan,” I really liked the concept but didn’t want a cardigan. While scrolling through TikTok one day, I found a free pattern online for a similar looking sweater - and it wasn’t a cardigan!

It turned out that this pattern was the first one that the creator had made. As a result of this, the pattern was missing some instructions and had a general lack of clarity throughout. This meant that I had to make up most of the pattern as I went. Overall, this resulted in a much more engaging process as I was knitting. Beyond just having a lot of fun with this project, I also love wearing this sweater! It’s oversized and extremely soft which is absolutely perfect for chilly days.
